It is already TUESDAY of this amazing HS mission trip! I'm taking a moment to update all of you on how things are going so far.
Our sleeping accommodations are awesome. Comfortable beds, a/c, real showers. Could we ask for anything more?? The staff here is full of energy and everyone is having a lot of fun with them. They make an effort to get to know the youth and help them feel at home. Monday's workday was a lot of learning and a lot of work. We learned about the tools and how to tear off shingles, lay new shingles, cut things to size, lay decking, and more and more and more. Today, we are excited to get even more done now that we know what's going on. Youth who were tentative about heights are conquering fears and climbing up and getting to work. It's a huge blessing to me to be able to witness moments like that in their lives. THANK YOU for sharing your youth this week with me and the other adults. We are all learning from each other. Everyone seems to be having a ball. Friendships are being made new and some rekindled. I know some of us were very anxious heading into this week, but you would not be able to tell by the way everyone has come together. And it's only Tuesday! We have been posting pictures on the instagram page @rryouth which you can follow. I will also put some here! Enjoy! Thank you for praying for us and loving and encouraging us. -Rachel It was a BEAUTIFUL day at Clay's Park. No injuries, lots of fun. The kids are in the gym and we are heading to worship soon. They will surely be tired tonight (& tomorrow morning)!
Here are some pictures! We are in a break right now, between dinner and worship. The youth are down in the gym and youth area playing dodgeball, chatting, writing, drawing, playing pool, etc. You probably know which thing your child is doing just like I do. Yup, Samantha is playing dodge ball, Carter H is playing pool, Rebecca is writing, Allie is chatting....
:-) We were able to get a lot of work done today, despite a slight morning rain delay. Everyone seems pretty tired this evening and they will sleep well. We get to sleep in tomorrow because it's the day we go to Clay's Park. We are hoping that we continue to have clear skies so we can have a fun-filled day. I asked Tommy during dinner what the first thing would be that he would do at Clay's Park. He said "I will put on sunscreen and drink lots of gatorade." I was so thrilled in that moment. :-D These youth are AMAZING. I am HONORED to be their youth leader. I am so proud of each one of them. They are bonding, having a blast, having deep conversations about God, trusting each other, facing fears, learning new skills....the list goes on and on. Just a couple of pics from today. I might get more during worship and post them tonight. Parents, you are raising amazing people. -Rachel |
